Dr. Schulte's research will focus on the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for drug delivery applications. MOFs are hybrid organic-inorganic compounds that can be described as crystalline sponges due to their periodic nature and inherent porosity. This particular project will focus on the development of MOF-based multidrug delivery systems for several varieties of arthritis, particularly gout. Students in my lab will have the opportunity to create NEW materials  and gain skills in materials synthesis, crystallography, and spectroscopy, including hands-on experience with state of the art instrumentation, such as electron microscopes and X-ray diffractometers.
