The determination of laser frequency to a level 10 MHz will be achieved using saturated absorption spectroscopy of molecular iodine. The measurement of laser frequency to this level is imperative for many precision laser spectroscopic applications, such as absorption spectroscopy of trace gases using cavity enhanced spectroscopy as well as laser probing of rare isotopes, both of which are active research projects in the Klose group. The proposed work builds on two years of previous work of development and initial implementation of an iodine saturated absorption spectrometer.
