2017 Undergraduate Research Fellowship

Vermillion, SD - Forty eight students were selected out of eighty nine applications to the 2017 SD BRIN Undergraduate Research Fellows Program.  SD BRIN funded 16 students from Augustana University, 3 students from the University of Sioux Falls, 7 students from Black Hills State University, 7 students from Mount Marty College, 5 students from Dakota Wesleyan University, 4 students interested in University of South Dakota bioinformatics training, 5 students from the University of South Dakota American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) program, and 1 Native American student from a University of South Dakota Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU).  The undergraduate researchers worked with their faculty mentors on biomedical research projects for 10 weeks at Augustana University, the University of Sioux Falls, Black Hills State University, Mount Marty College, Dakota Wesleyan University, the University of South Dakota, and Sanford Research.  To end their summer, the students attended the 2017 EPSCoR/SD BRIN Undergraduate Research Symposium in Pierre, SD on August 2 and 3.  The symposium included presentations on medical and health professional schools, graduate schools, and improving science communication.  The undergraduate researchers concluded the symposium with a poster presentation about their research.
