Current Research: Evidence suggests vitamin D status is correlated to multiple chronic diseases and health benefits including increased muscular strength and cardiovascular capacity. The current RDA for vitamin D is 600 IU daily. However, several researchers suggest this amount to be too low to provide optimal physical strength and endurance capacity. Scholten's current research objective is to determine the effects of vitamin D supplementation on physical performance measures. His hypothesis is that chronic vitamin D supplementation will improve muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness through the upregulation of serum testosterone and other biochemical parameters of physical performance.
